January 9, 2016

This week went by really fast and all is going on as normal here. I am trying to make the most of the month that I have left here in Dajabon. As always this week we had a tough time finding enough people to teach but the people that we are teaching did progress significantly.  Victor is doing well and has an official baptismal date for the 28th of January so we are preparing ourselves for that.  We are in the process of finishing the lessons and planning out his wedding and such so things are going well there.  It has been super cool to see him change and especially to make the decision to get married and baptized because he was very against the idea of getting married just a few weeks ago. We also have a really cool couple that we are teaching and they have been progressing really well and the members have been helping us with them.  As I have said before, it has been hard to find people that have any interest in this area but little by little we will keep moving forward.  We are having a bit more success with the members and the elders quorum president and the relief society president are starting to help us out more and become a bit more involved in the process of helping the members.  We are going to keep working and see what we can do to have success here.

I love and miss everyone in the family.  I hope that you can be comforted in the knowledge of the Plan of Salvation and help those of the family and friends of Troy that are not quite so sure about where he is, to understand it.  It was good to talk to him a bit on Christmas Day and I’m very grateful that we were able to talk that one last time.  I hope that all goes well and that you can all be strong and united as a family during this time.

I did not have any changes with this transfer so I am still here in Dajabon with the same companion. I was definitely a bit surprised and not super excited about it at first but I have learned to trust that what happens with transfers is for the best of everyone. I am very optimistic about it though and am looking forward with faith that we will be able to have success here in this branch and be able to change things. We have been able to have some progress with a few of our investigators and have found some new people that are very receptive. That being said, we always need to find more people to teach. This week started off really well though, we taught Victor and tried to get him to commit to a baptismal date of the 21 of January. He said he needed some time to think about it and make the decision but we are going back tonight and I think that he will accept that date. We also started teaching the husband of an active member that hasn´t really cared much in the past about the church. We taught him and left him a Book of Mormon and he actually read a whole chapter and told us that he wants to get baptized so we will see what happens.  We also were lucky to find a family that is always at home in the morning. In the mission you are supposed to leave at 10:00 in the morning to proselyte but it is usually really hard to find people that will actually listen to you. On Wednesday we found a family that is always there in the morning and they were very receptive of the message, and should hopefully be going to church this next Sunday.  We have also been doing our best to try and help the members have more desire to help out their fellow members and nonmembers find the gospel. It has been really hard and we haven´t necessarily had too much success there but little by little we will be able to get them more involved in the work.  We didn't really do much on the 31st during the day because everyone was getting ready to party and did not want to listen to the missionaries but that night we made a small fire on the roof of our house and I felt like I was camping.  It felt really good to start the year of 2017 and I am looking forward to all the good things that will happen this year, in and out of the mission life.

December 2016

Due to being sick and his work we haven´t been able to teach Victor for a little while but know that he would be a really strong member and could help this branch out a lot. We also have an investigator that is 16 and is progressing a lot so hopefully we can put a baptismal date for her soon. We did have our baptism on Saturday, her husband baptized her and she felt really good about it. On Sunday she was a little bit late to sacrament meeting so I was worried that she wasn´t going to be able to be confirmed but she made it just in time. For the moment things are going well and we are going to have to keep working hard and find some progress soon hopefully.
